CFM International has secured orders from lessors CDB Aviation and ALAFCO for Leap-1A engines to power incoming Airbus A320neo narrowbodies.

The decision by IndiGo to order Leap-1As to power 280 Airbus A320neos represents a key win for CFM International over the airline’s incumbent supplier Pratt & Whitney.
NEW DELHI: IndiGo, the world’s largest customer for the Airbus 320/21 new engine option (Neo) aircraft, has opted for CFM engines over the snag-prone Pratt & Whitney (PW) engines for this plane. The low cost carrier has placed an order worth $20 billion for CFM’s LEAP-1A engines for 280 A320 and A321 Neo planes, making it the largest ever single engine order ever. The contract includes spare engines, and an overhaul support agreement through a long-term service agreement.
Later this year, CFM International will make available cleaning carts that will allow operators to remove build-ups of deposited carbon from the fuel nozzles of their Leap engines while the engines and fuel nozzles remain on-wing.
CFM International is now delivering all new Leap-1A engines for installation on A320neo-family jets on time. While deliveries of Leap-1Bs to Boeing for 737 Maxes are still incurring minor delays, the engine-manufacturing joint venture expects to overcome remaining Leap-1B delivery delays within weeks.
